My Valentine Date Ideas

Although I’m perpetually single every year since forever a friend of mine asked what ideas I had for dates in Gaborone that didn’t include food. This single girl may not be having a valentine date, but I do have some dope ideas on how you can take your partner out for a little fun and different romance in this small city of hours. Some of these activities do cost a little bit of money however, remember that romance is not just about money but rather about thoughtfulness. For valentines my advice is to pick a gift or date that shows your partner you pay attention to them, listen to them, and put thought into making sure they are happy. This list does include some food ideas because my personal preference is to be well fed on dates. So, in no order, here are my valentine date ideas for 2018:

1. Bounceland
Although the place is considered ideal for families, bounce land is a great active date idea for you and your partner. It’ll allow you both to get in touch with your inner child, while getting in some exercise. Good, “clean” physical intimacy is unavoidable as you will most likely need to hold each other up, catch each other’s falls or just laugh at yourselves. It’s a great way to get back to the basics of friendships with your partner and I hear they have a pretty good drinks menu if you’re into that sort of thing.

2. Horse Riding at Equestrian Center
Located in Notwane, Equestrian Center has affordable horse riding for beginners and professional riders. They have rides ranging from 50 Pula in an enclosed area to 150 pula for a scenic ride on their property. Their property is along the river bank and has quite an amazing view, while their horses are friendly and well trained. The center also has a restaurant which is open for beverages and food, some of which includes ingredients from their organic farm. The salad I had the last time I was there was amazing I do recommend it. However, if you want to add a little extra romance please schedule your ride for either sunrise or sunset as it’ll be beautiful out as well as much cooler. The farm also has a couple’s chalet available for rent on the riverside at around 700 per night.

3. Gaborone Film Society Films
If you’re looking for an alternative to the usually cinema date, Gaborone Film Society has a selection of movies playing throughout February. All though none of the movies are playing on the actual day, these classics are a great valentines idea because you’ll get a different experience and a whole different set of movies. The Movies are played at Maitisong and you can look up the Gaborone Film Society to see when and what is playing this month.

4. Game Drives
Whether you choose to take your own 4x4 to the Gaborone Game Park for a game drive or you choose to do a guided Game Drive with Mokolodi Nature Reserve, sunset game drives just scream romance. If you want to make this a little more interesting, you can choose to have a romantic picnic set up for you and your loved one. You could also make this a group activity if you have couple friend’s you usually double date with then have a braai or picnic after.

5. Pandora’s Picnics
Azraa Pandor might have a solution if you’re really not that hands on with this valentine’s thing. The young woman’s romantic picnic solutions are a hassle-free way to do romance. For a fee Pandora’s Picnics will set up a romantic picnic for you and your partner including food, décor, cutlery and a bottle of wine if that’s what you’re into. The picnic can be set up in your home, garden or terrace and is a great intimate way to show your partner you appreciate him or her. Try getting Azraa and her team to add some important details that remind you of your partner. For example if sunflowers are her favorite flowers why would you use roses as a center piece.  They have a facebook page and Instagram for bookings.

6. My Home Cafe
This valentine My Home Café in metsmotlhabe has a solution for those couples experiencing this valentine with their kids. So if you’re a couple with children you who can’t find a baby sitter check out their outdoor movie and family fun day on the 17th of February. It is important to share however that children are not a terrible idea to include in your valentine plans especially for new parents but do try make some quality time for just you two occasionally. You can RSVP with Pinkie on 76000060

I hope you lover birds get some great quality time and show your lovers why they’re your number ones. Remember though romance should exist every day. It costs nothing but thoughtfulness.

With Love,
TJ

DAY 5 A LETTER TO YOUR DREAMS

How are they so many of you? Lord. I can't keep up. Maybe I take too many naps and sleep too long. I feel like I'm always chasing... Always so confused and for a very long time I sat and watched. Then I turned twenty. And as if for some reason God decided that Twenty was the year. Doors opened and we walked through. I can see you clearly now. Everyday's to do list is one step closer to I made it. And every sleep less night is one less dream and for once I'm really glad man. I'm really fucken glad I'm not feeling like you're slipping away. I'm trying to keep up. I'm really trying to stay awake.

Soul Cleanse Sundays: A Safe Space for ALL women of Color

" I wish there were places I felt safe to break in mote often. There are far and few. Sometimes between them I feel this swelling climbing up my throat and think this is it. Its too late to make it and so I crumble. Never forgetting that breaking is never beautiful. Its tears, blood and sweat. God I wish I wasn't so good at hiding my pain as poetry and prose. I wish I was better at planting confidence to grow into wings. But I plant doubt. I am mean to myself. I plant emptiness and so I never really become anything but an impostor. Nothing but an anxious shell of a pretender. Just an actress with a really good script for a strong woman. A brilliant one." I wrote this scribble in September 2017, a time in which my entire life felt like one big break. I was fragile and raw desperate for a place were I would be allowed to break in and where I would still be seen as a warrior even if I did. So when I did not find that place I decided to create it. One of the many goals I ...
